My vote goes to the jerboa, because I am pretty much convinced it is actually from another planet.

Baby, all the way. I am convincing that should you find a jerboa in your house, you’d freak out. The laughing baby passes that test. Just get that baby some paper, and let him tear it up.

I am convinced, as well as convincing.

The baby. The jeboa is eerily insectoid…

Being a mom, I think I’m biased toward the baby clip. The gerboa is cute in a creepy way. The baby made me laugh til I cried. Thanks for sharing!

I agree with Suzanne M that the jerboa is an alien. BUT IT’S THE CUTEST ALIEN EVER.

The baby is adorable too; I miss the days where ripping a magazine apart could make me that happy.

    Mikey–

I have to disagree. i’d rather have the jerboa in my house than a baby. having been the “mom” of everything from hamsters to turtles to rats, i think the jerboa is waaaaayyyyyyy cuter.

its the fluffiness that gets to me… :)

So all I have to do to get the special Feministe-insider dark grey comment is call myself Jill?

OK, I fully realize that my 25-year-old hormones are digging in on this one, but OMG THAT BABY!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s enough to make you want to feed a parasitic life form with your blood and then push it out your vajayjay.

    non sequitur 5.28.2009 at 11:34 pm |

Neither is cute. The jerboa is beating off furiously the whole time, and the adult in the baby clip is clearly stoned out of his mind. You’re just trying to corrupt as part of your atheist socialist liberal feminist agenda.

    But the baby is cuter.

    Jerboa. No friggin’ question.

the jerboa!! that creature would be in imminent danger of being crushed by love & affection if it were in my possesion.
“i will name him george and i will hug him and pet him and squeeze him”

Mocha the baby hamster still reigns king of cuteness, I think.

Jerboa. Mostly because it looks like an alien (SO glad I’m not the only one that thinks that! :) and …. s/he fell of the scale! Cause s/he was grooming SO INTENSELY! And, and….the feet! The tail! Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhh! *splort!*

“Clean up on aisle five. Another one esploded from teh cute.”

I didnt even have to click the baby one–I’ve watched it approximately 6.43 million times. He wins the internetz.

    And that’s that!

    :-p

though the little scary-looking jerboa thingy has a certain charm, i will grudgingly admit

I love that baby clip. :)

Have you seen the pygmy jerboa babies clip? Apparently pygmy jerboa parenting consists largely of picking up your young and moving them around a bunch while they attempt to wriggle out of the nest. You could make a really adorable flash game out of it.

    Alderson Warm-Fork 5.29.2009 at 5:47 am |

I’m sure I’ve seen that pygmy jerboa before, possibly teaching martial arts to a panda…

My vote is for the Jerboa; I’m a tad biased toward cute, fuzzy critters.

omg, the jerboa! The feet! The hopping! The tail-grooming! So adorable!!

    Lena 5.29.2009 at 7:34 am |

Looks like somebody gave the poor jerboa a bath…

Nonetheless, she’s the cutest thing alive. If anyone says otherwise, they’re fooling themselves. ;P

It’s a tie! More importantly, you’ve discovered a new rule of cute: critters that fall (without harm) while too actively engaged in something else, are cute.

I love the baby but that jerboa…aw maaaan. I have to go for the jerboa.

That clip demonstrates probably the greatest and eventually most annoying issue with childhood development. It takes years for a joke to get old.

    Sara Pulis 5.29.2009 at 8:56 am |

Both so cute… but I’ll have to go with the n00b (i.e. baby). Though with all the falling over he does I hope he won’t have headache issues or something of that sort later.

    prairielily 5.29.2009 at 9:10 am |

Jerboa. When it fell off the scale, I burst out laughing.

    @ Mikey:

You wouldn’t freak out if you found a random baby in your house? Heh.

  29. 29
    Amie 5.29.2009 at 10:00 am |

    hands down, the Jeroba.

    The baby wins. No contest.

    Claire 5.29.2009 at 11:32 am |

The jeroba is adorable, but the baby actually made me hyperventilate a little.

Baby. That animal freaks me out.

    Jonathan 5.29.2009 at 12:38 pm |

Jerboa! It’s one of those things that becomes adorable despite being kind of terrifying and ridiculous looking. In large numbers they might be disturbing though.

Baby, even if I want to vote mine as cuter. Guess I’m biased.

  36. 36
    MomTFH 5.29.2009 at 2:34 pm |

My ten year old says the laughing baby is cuter. I think he is teh cute himself.

  37. 37
    Mikey 5.29.2009 at 3:03 pm |

@ Tony: Good point. It is bizarre for me to claim that, should I find a random baby in my house, especially one who seemed to have a magnetic attraction to the silliness of paper, I’d be fine with it.

But that said, what I hoped to suggest is that we put Baby vs. Jerboa to some sort of test, and the Random Appearance in Your House Test is what I came up with.

    timberwraith 5.29.2009 at 5:12 pm |

For me, the jerboa wins. I have a bias, though. I don’t seem to have the “baby = OMG cute” response that so many other people have. In fact, I don’t generally think of kids as being cute until they hit at least two years old.

    The jerboa! No contest.

    end scene.

    TheFeministBreeder 5.30.2009 at 2:24 pm |

OMG, laughing babies are the cutest. I have both my babies on video laughing like this, but for some odd reason BOTH my boys get the hiccups from laughing, so each video ends with them hiccuping and throwing up all over themselves. Awesome.

    Alice 5.30.2009 at 7:24 pm |

That kid is going to LOVE Xmas crackers when he gets older. I have to vote for the baby, my brain just doesn’t accept that the jerboa isn’t CGI

    Oh my god the Jerboa.

The baby and dad are cute, but the jerboa is AMAZING.

  45. 45
    j 5.31.2009 at 7:56 pm |

    @38:
I don’t usually have the baby=cute reaction either, but this one did make me laugh. I think it was something about the way the adult (dad?) and baby interacted, and the adult was clearly having so much fun himself.
