My takedown of William Saletan’s latest “I know everything about abortion!” article. (Hint: he doesn’t).
Post about an awesome article about Wal-Mart, monopsony power, and the race to the bottom.
Just for fun: the joys of being a science nerd.
At Merda D’artista, I published the emails I sent to Bill O’Reilly, and Jeffrey Immelt/Jeff Zucker, in light of the Tiller murder, the phenomenon of the Facebook altar call, and my love of corsets, Lady GaGa, and the Real Housewives of New Jersey.

I criticized underage drinking laws for discouraging the reporting of violent crimes – battering as well as sexual assault – on college campuses.
Following the murder of Dr. George Tiller, I wondered why the providers of very late-term abortions are clustered outside of the “blue states.” I also took a look at the patchwork of laws that make the post-viability “health” exception so variable from state to state.

I wrote this asking why not get back to doing it ourselves.
At Vegans Against PETA, I write a bit about PETA’s abhorrent exploitation of Dr. Tiller’s murder, from the point of view that their billboards show just how little they know about what it means to be pro-choice. In comments I am inspired by a reader to surmise that PETA is the COINTELPRO of today’s progressive movement. (I could have a dialog with myself about it all day long, really.)
I also write about PETA’s lesser known hateful stunt of late, in which they malign an important Inuit symbol, the inukshuk, to look like a man about to club a seal.
Finally, I’ve just posted a roundup of general PETA stupidity that others have written about, including PETA’s ignorant, racist assertion, discussed at Muslimah Media Watch, that beating women is part of local practice in the Middle East.
This week at Evil Slutopia, we compiled an Anti-Sotomayor Stupidity Scorecard, refuted some of the misinformation put forth in the The Pill Kills Women campaign, and made fun of the One Million Moms for protesting the reality show The Cougar.

This week I wrote Banning Books Hurts Youth, about the various groups trying to ban certain teen books from libraries for containing homosexuality, anorexia, cutting, sexual abuse, or a number of other things, and how these groups don’t actually care about teens but just want to exploit them to further a personal bigoted agenda.

Over at Deeply Problematic this week, I reviewed the Hemingses of Monticello, commented on the Eminem-forced sex interlude at the MTV Music Awards and how a song on his most recent album reflects on the incident, and talked about how little I read the news. Today I posted in reponse to Amelia above about discomfort and partner privilege at rock concerts.
Over at Ms. Modern I wrote about how efficacy positively impacts body image.
Rhode Island will soon decide whether to ‘close the loophole’ and pass a law criminalizing indoor prostitution. The ‘loophole’ has made it possible for scores of Asian ‘spas’ to open in Providence. The anti-trafficking activists says the spas are enslaving women, but the women aren’t talking to the police.
One documentary film maker went into the spas with a Korean interpreter and asked them about their lives. Tara Hurley’s film, ‘Happy Endings’ is showing in Rhode Island. A review and a link to her website is here..

There has been an amazing amount of #disabilityfail in my life over the past week, and I’m making a point of posting about it and calling people out.
Davros is not a physically handicapped mad scientist overcoming his shortcomings through taking over the world – although the post this is in response to has since been taken down (much to my irritation.)
This was followed by Disability Fail: Nova Scotia Elections edition, where I should warn folks that politicians and agencies in NS essentially presented (amongst OTHER things, OMG) that PWD are only people with physical disabilities or learning difficulties, and the only issues of importance are poverty issues and health care. Oh, and those pesky disabled folks shouldn’t be allowed to ask their own questions of politicians because it wouldn’t be “fair”.
This week also included a doctor deciding my husband is a medical specimen, not a person, by which I mean in an unrelated medical examination, the doctor decided to see how far he could push Don’s hyper-mobile joints – you know, that thing that causes his pain.
And then Don’s reaction to the Disability Forum, where he is simultaneously nicer than I am, and yet, more scary.
Of course, you can read all sorts of things if you check out my “disability” tag, and I wanted to call people’s attention to the new Disability101 community on Dreamwidth, Disability, as a sibling community to no_pity.
Did my post get eaten? I didn’t even get the “in moderation” bit. WOE IS ME! :)

re: the real housewives of New Jersey – while it is the better in that series of “Real Housewives” reality shows, I wonder about that one mother-daughter dynamic depicted on the premiere episode. I would be concerned if my 12-year-old daughter criticized other kinds of mothers … the ones that don’t look as plastic-surgery-maintenenced as her own mother does. As someone who is insterested in body image issues, I worry that other “tween” girls like her would turn on their mothers because they are not “best buddies” with them, let alone not being as “pretty” as those women on TV are.
I am going to look forward to click through all the links above. CombatQueer, I may do yours first, if I can handle being that pissed off.
A day late, a buck short, but…
I have put up two replies turned posts on my site about dialogue online around Dr. Tiller’s death. One was about characterizing late term abortion as horrifying. And, the second one was a reply to a comment section on the blog of a professor, a comment section I thought very illustratively dehumanized women and their practitioners.
Then, I botched about my house getting flooded while I am supposed to be studying for boards, and trued to blame it on the anti-choicers, poorly.
This week at City of Ladies, Brian wrote about how anti-abortion groups can avoid looking like assholes and damaging their own reputations when commenting on events such as Scott Roeder’s murder of Dr. George Tiller:
