FNTT, Season 5: the Ungrateful Bitches round

Yes, it’s that time again: We’re going to annoint Feministe’s Next Top Troll. I thought last round’s March Madness was fun, even if it did get de-railed by other things and we never actually picked a Top Troll. This time, I promise, we will choose a winner. I’ll post two or three contests per day, with two contenders each. Vote for your favorite, and we’ll keep doing run-offs until we have a winner. I’ve linked back to the post in question so that you can see the context of the comment.

Without further ado, Round One: Ungrateful Bitches. Unpleasant troll commentary below the fold.

Kim, from Standing with Amanda Terkel:

Amazing how a writer and reporter can “cherry pick” certain segments and point fingers at every direction and people reading one side of the story concludes the other person is bad. O’reilly “SUPPORTS” rape victims… does charities to raise money for rape victims… Further, I’ve heard SO many feminists talk about how disgusting it is for women to dress provocatively, making women look less. You should be happy the O’reilly thinks young women shouldn’t dress so provocatively.

e v i l e d d y, who lists his website as http://www.menarebetterthanwomen.com, from Sexist Superbowl Ads:

Sex sells.

Without that most of you women would be unemployed.

FACT.

i donno. the listing of something completely daft and stating “fact” wins for most ridiculous. although i really love when i get told i should feel a certain way about things.

2 Edie 6.9.2009 at 12:29 pm

Brevity, brevity, brevity. evildaddy is obviously too busy to harangue at length, but by the power of the testosterone in his blood, he can change fantasy into hare-core reality by the mere inclusion of the magical ALL-CAPS statement of “FACT”.

That and “you women”. Amazing how exclusionary two words can be, huh. I can almost feel the chain-link fence separating us women from the privileged patriarchs.

3 Sarah TX 6.9.2009 at 12:35 pm

What a hard one! I was certain to vote for Kim until I got to the hilarious FACT. from evileddy…

4 j.elise 6.9.2009 at 12:54 pm

Oooh. That’s tough. On the one hand, Kim thinks I should be glad about anything O’Reilly, which is sort of precious. On the other, I am totally astonished to learn that the cell bio research field is in fact sold by sex. FACT.

5 lindsay 6.9.2009 at 12:56 pm

Kim, if only for the fact that he used the phras “the O’reilly”.

6 Personal Failure 6.9.2009 at 1:06 pm

i like evildaddly’s bizarre use of the word “fact”. it’s almost like he doesn’t know what it means.

7 Sheelzebub 6.9.2009 at 1:15 pm

Kim’s incoherence and fondness for run-on sentences has a certain charm that cannot be denied. However, the visual of a kid running up and saying, “It’s a FACT!!!1!” when I read evildaddy’s comment saves an otherwise weak attempt at baiting the feminists.

For humore value alone, I’ll go with evildaddy.

But good try, Kim! Try again!

8 Ledasmom 6.9.2009 at 1:17 pm

I like the quotes and the poor logic Kim uses, as well as the devil-may-care attitude towards capitalization.

9 Rebecca 6.9.2009 at 1:18 pm

“FACT” makes the last one.

10 MomTFH 6.9.2009 at 1:27 pm

If you capitalize the word FACT, it makes it a fact. So does using the term “ipso facto.”

11 KathyMarie 6.9.2009 at 1:35 pm

I like the “FACT” from evileddy, but Kim’s use of both quotes and capitalization for emphesis amuses me more. Mostly because when I read O’reilly “SUPPORTS” rape victims I’m reading it with massive sarcasm and an eyeroll.

12 Mireille 6.9.2009 at 1:48 pm

I think e v i l d a d d y may have an unfair advantage. Is he related to polldaddy?

13 rachel 6.9.2009 at 1:49 pm

evileddy got it for me…how silly…without “sex sells” “you women” would have no job? what planet is he from? i thought most of us were too unattractive for that purpose…that’s why you know, we want to vote and shit like that…

bill o’reilly’s “SUPPORT” for women was funny, too, though.

14 Josh 6.9.2009 at 2:07 pm

evildaddy had me at the name that he listed for his website. The use of “Fact” in allcaps, which I most recently saw on a Christian children’s TV show about creation of the world in six days, just was icing on the cake.

15 umami 6.9.2009 at 2:25 pm

evileddy, it has to be. I think he believes that all the women he sees with better jobs than him only got them because they gave a blowjob to the right person. It definitely can’t be that they’re smarter than he is!
Or I suppose he could be a very sheltered teenager with Internet access who thinks most adult women are porn stars. He’s just more fun to speculate about.

16 Laurie in Mpls. 6.9.2009 at 2:34 pm

evildaddy wins this one for me, simply because a) I’m self emplyed, and b) by FAR (and I mean like 99.9%) of my clients are women. Yeah. Sex is keeping me in MY job!!!

17 Laurie in Mpls. 6.9.2009 at 2:36 pm

A-hem. Self *employed* even.

More caffeine here!

18 Debi 6.9.2009 at 3:02 pm

Defently evil addy…I mean hes from the ridiculous men are betterthenwomen.com and his spouting of “facts” hilarous. Sorry kim

19 Debi 6.9.2009 at 3:03 pm

Defently evil daddy…I mean hes from the ridiculous men are betterthenwomen.com and his spouting of “facts” hilarous. Sorry kim

20 Falyne 6.9.2009 at 4:11 pm

I’m going with Kim, because I kind of doubt they’ve “heard SO many feminists talk about how disgusting it is for women to dress provocatively, making women look less.”

I mean, seriously.

21 GallingGalla 6.9.2009 at 4:34 pm

it’s kim for me. “SUPPORTS” reaches a new level of busted for me.

22 Colleen 6.9.2009 at 4:47 pm

I had to go with Kim on this one for his/her spirited defense of O’Reilly whom I hate with the heat of a thousand suns. My judgement was obviously clouded..

23 Laurie 6.9.2009 at 4:53 pm

This is a close call but I gotta go with Kim for this line:

Further, I’ve heard SO many feminists talk about how disgusting it is for women to dress provocatively, making women look less.

It’s so precious when misogynists put their words in the mouths of fictional feminists.

24 William 6.9.2009 at 7:16 pm

I kind of like evileddy’s rhetorical technique, I mean, before today I didn’t know you could effectively shut down a discussion with caps.

If it wasn’t for the Illuminati and the Freemasons you’d all be speaking Welsh right now.

FACT.

25 Soma 6.10.2009 at 7:45 am

evildaddy. I’m a sucker for magical thinking: saying “FACT” makes it true!

26 Syl 6.10.2009 at 10:05 am

I agree about evildaddy. He sounds like Dwight Schrute with that “FACT” stuff. Plus, you gotta love the conciseness of his argument. No analysis there, just a punch-in-the-face assertion!

27 kat 6.10.2009 at 1:51 pm

Syl–you beat me to it! FACT, ftw only because he reminds me of Dwight Schrute.

And doesn’t evildaddy kinda make our argument: it doesn’t matter what job we have, all “they” see when they look at us is sex. Doctor, accountant, teacher, waitress, astronaut, cashier, etc., etc., we’re just selling sex.

28 lindsay 6.10.2009 at 9:30 pm

did anyone else actually go to the site “menarebetterthanwomen.com” that evileddy listed??? only go if you are prepared to vomit. normally when i come across glaring sexism i contact the news source, company, whatever it is that published it. with this one i’m not even sure what to do. my boyfriend and i can’t decide if this guy is for real or some kind of sick joke.

29 Gina 6.11.2009 at 3:28 am

I voted for evildaddy.

He’s just too precious.

FACT.

30 Gwrthryfel 6.11.2009 at 10:16 am

Evileddy wins that one. Apparently, the majority of jobs available to women involve sex. I suppose this means that the health insurance company I work for in a quiet business park is probably in truth a prostitution ring, in which I am unknowingly being used. Funny, I never noticed myself having sex for money.

Also, menarebetterthanwomen.com says it all, just because it is actually a website and that he apparently follows it.

31 denelian 6.11.2009 at 11:55 pm

“I’ve heard SO many feminists talk about how disgusting it is for women to dress provocatively, making women look less…”

less WHAT?

dressing “PROVOCATIVELY” makes women look less “_______”

female? good? healthy? intelligent? respectable?

i don’t know what s/he is trying to SAY here

32 Hershele Ostropoler 6.12.2009 at 12:58 pm

evildaddy, although I liked the typo (?) that led Kim to refer to “the O’Reilley”.

33 Sarah H. 6.12.2009 at 5:53 pm

I voted for Kim just b/c she was supporting anything Bill O’reilly.

34 CulturalIconography 6.13.2009 at 1:13 am

Hmm. More of a tough choice here. Anyone claiming O’Reilly is some sort of saint is obviously smoking way too much crack. OTOH, the sheer misogyny of evileddy’s comments, and his insecurity–um, if it’s so obvious, why put FACT in there at all–those pushed him into the Top Troll finals, IMHO.

35 AutumnWytch 6.17.2009 at 3:53 pm

evildaddy…

FACT!

36 Rachel S. 6.17.2009 at 9:52 pm

Kim, for two reasons:
1. “the O’reilly”
2. I cannot vote for anyone who uses “daddy” in their screen name. It skeeves me out.

37 EatenByChutulu 6.17.2009 at 11:13 pm

Evileddy for brevity brevity!

38 sojie 6.18.2009 at 3:39 pm

Really tough call – I went with the “fact” idiot, but I’m still torn…who is the bigger idiot? Hard one
