thomas, from Bristol Palin: Teen Pregnancy Warning Sign?
I think this discussion is missing the point of what the t- shirt is trying to do. I see it as an attempt to socialize teen women into modesty, which is a value that went away in America for a generation. I think that positive social constructions are necessary if you want to educate the youth. Everyday every teenager gladly consumes fallacies and misrepresentations of sexy. It seems like it has only gotten worse, because of these constructions. I think it would be important for peoples being men or women to promote modesty again in our culture.
courage the cowardly dog
Because you have silenced a man does not mean he is wrong. No wonder they call you FemiNazis.

Dear Thomas,
90% of women born in 1940 had sex before marriage. FTR, they are not in my generation. Hugs!
Izzy
I went with cowardly dog (haven’t we heard from him before this season?), ’cause last I checked feminists (or even feminazis) lack the power to actually silence anyone. also for the use of a nazi analogy which according to godwin’s law means he automatically loses (and in this context automatically wins!)
I went for Thomas because when a troll uses the term ‘FemiNazis’, I feel he isn’t trying enough.
I obviously disagree with Thomas’ point. It’s not his fault. He’s just built too low and it went right over his head. But he was polite and respectful. Mr. Dog was just unpleasant.
Voted for CTCD because it reminded me of that old saw: “If a man says something in the forest and his wife isn’t around to hear him, is he still wrong?”
At first I thought both of these trolls were disappointing. But then I read Thomas’s comment in context. He actually thinks that a tight-fitting top that states “I’m sexy enough to keep you waiting” promotes MODESTY. That top may be a lot of things, but modest it ain’t. Thomas gets my vote for unintentional irony.
Thomas, for I do indeed consume fallacies. Nom nom nom!
I’m peddling this book ’round the blogosphere…

I voted for thomas because he gave me such a great opening for a discussion on social construction, no?
Thomas. Because if he thinks t-shirts are intended to promote modesty, he obviously has never been to a mall.
I agree with Laurie. Trying to turn modesty into something “sexy” is nothing more than the good ol’ double-standard (You have to be sexy, but you’d better be a virgin!) which obviously only creates problems.
Thomas, for his righteous desire to “educate the youth.” The youth. WTF? Who talks like that?
I honestly don’t understand Herr. courage, but Thomas (and Candie’s) gets my vote for lack of self awareness in his desire to socialize modesty via objectification.
Socialism! Lolz!
And what was all that about “consuming fallacies”? How is it that these lunks inadvertently coin the best double, triple and even quadruple entendres when I spend hours purposefully trying to no avail?
(I almost fell out of my chair laughing!)
Thomas.
For the simple fact that he put the words “consumes” and “fallacies” side by side.
Priceless.
Thomas. CTCD had it until I looked at that shirt. Apparently skin tight, low cut, tank tops which insinuate that the wearer is a sexy tease are now modest. Hmmm…okay.
I have to go with Thomas. CTCD took the easy way out.
Thomas gets my vote simply because he’s trying so much harder. CTCD just did a little drive-by trolling, but Thomas committed.
Thomas was a severe temptation, but I had to go with CTCD: he reminded me of Usenet’s Michael John Falkner, who argued for repeal of the Constitution’s “free speech” clause — on the grounds that there was no such thing as free speech unless people could be forced to listen, so any single person who refuses to listen to me is denying me freedom of speech.
Much as I hate courage for tarnishing his namesake, the other guy is just a little bit crazier…
thomas. In honor of him, I am having for dinner this evening delicious braised fallacy with goat cheese crostinis over a bed of arugula, drizzled in a light misrepresentations-of-sexy vinaigrette.
Hm. Thomas, because he doesn’t make any sense, or courage, because thomas doesn’t make any sense?
Thomas, for his spectacular failure to comprehend the concept of oxymoron.
I’m really torn on this one. On the one hand I appreciate Thomas’ commitment. On the other hand I keep reading Courage’s comment over and over and it’s kind of like when you keep saying a word out loud until it doesn’t make sense. I don’t know how he got from Silencing the (literal) Man to Godwin’s Law so quickly.
Couldn’t vote for either. I practically fell asleep trying to read Thomas’ dull pap, and Courage has nothing new to say. At least he’s shorter about it.
C the cd wins my vote! He’s so solemn, so brave.
Oh, it has to be the so well-named Courage. I love his brave willingness to stand up against the FemiNazi regime and speak truth to power despite the ever-present fear that you’re going to persecute his family and throw him into a gulag for being a member of the Resistance.
Swoon. He’s such a hero. I love that he won’t be silenced.
I voted for Thomas, whom I wish well in passing his ESL classes.
Thomas, for making me think of table legs being covered up for reasons of “modesty”
Thomas, for so thoroughly demonstrating how much he doesn’t get it.
