It is great news. What progressives have to understand is the Obama administration will not support repealing the Defense of Marriage Act. The neoliberals that support DOMA (Rahm Emanuel) will push back back Nadler. Progressives need to show their support of Nadler. Alcee Hasting said White House officials told him they would not back repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. This is not an administration that is going to use political capital for LGBT issues.
What Michael said. Obama isn’t filled with personal anti-gay animus, it’s just that LGBT issues don’t seem to make his top forty agenda items. Progressives need to push him to do what his better instincts (and not political expediency) suggest. And Nadler is a peach.
