You couldn’t get marriage equality passed, but at least you got it right on medical marijuana.

They hardly “got it right.” Yes, it’s better than nothing, but the government shouldn’t be getting between a doctor and his or her patient to decide when medical marijuana is appropriate. It’s helped my anxiety disorder and RA greatly, whether the government thinks its appropriate or not.
I have to agree. The best month of my life, I was using MJ once a week. People with mental illnesses and other illnesses considered less real are constantly left out of these laws, despite medical evidence.
If you want to know how to avoid leaving people out of at least this law, you can start by legalizing it altogether. Much less serious, I’ll admit, but it’s about the only thing that gets rid of my very severe motion sickness, for example. The list of pros far, far outweighs the list of cons at this point, and it’s not just those with illnesses who stand to benefit. It’s high (no pun intended) time we think seriously about the entire structure of drug trafficking and our completely ineffectual war on it.
And it’s not really “right” until federal marijuana prosecutions stop, as well — though that’s not really NJ’s fault. They continue, despite Obama’s pledge.
A little piece of progress. In New Jersey, no less.
“Under California law, residents can obtain legal marijuana for a list of maladies as common, and as vaguely defined, as anxiety or chronic pain.”
Yes, this sentence does give the impression that no one has severe anxiety or severe chronic pain. Certainly not so bad that they’d need marijuana for it. It’s common, how bad can it be. It’s vaguely defined so it’s not real. Er, right. And a law is not a guarantee. The doctor still has to approve it and I know this doesn’t always happen in Canada despite it being legal.
I don’t get it. We’re getting a Republican governor who is already pissing me off, we cant get gay marriage, but (medical) MARIJUANA IS LEGALIZED. One of these is not like the others…
Progress, indeed.
