Amelia, a 27-year-old Nicaraguan woman, has a ten-year-old daughter. She also has cancer and desperately needs treatment, but is being denied care because she’s pregnant. Abortion is entirely illegal in Nicaragua, even in a case like Amelia’s where she needs a therapeutic abortion to save her life. In Amelia’s case, it’s not just abortion that is being denied — it’s treatment for the cancer as well, since such treatment could harm the fetus. Amelia might die and her ten-year-old daughter may be left without her mother because of “pro-life” orthodoxy.

We all feel the need to support the rights of the fetus before those that are already alive and breathing. It’s nonsense; pro life my foot. They don’t care that if this child is brought to term it might mean death of this hir mother. What about the little girl that is already alive who needs her mother. It makes me sick when pro life people carry on about concern for the children because the moment they are born they forget about said children and commence with blaming women for failing to brick out of straw. Not only do you have to mother you have to do it without any tangible support but not to worry there is always someone to tell you just how wrong you are doing it.

Yeah! Because you know the only reason doctors would claim an abortion was medically necessary is because they hate babies.

I just posted a comment there, but they list the president of Nicaragua as “Daniel Ortega Saavedra Rosario Murillo.” In fact, the president’s name is Daniel Ortega Saavedra; the First Lady’s name is Rosario Murillo.
