Oh this is so sad. The wonderful Jon Swift — whose real name was Al Weisel — has passed away. Jon was one of the first bloggers to link to my writing, and was always very supportive of feminist bloggers. His writing was consistently incisive, intelligent and hilarious.
He was a good one, and he will be missed.
I just got the e-mail from a fellow blogging friend. I feel like I’ve been punched in the stomach. :-(
He linked to me to. He was a real champion for progressive bloggers. This is so sad.

Very tragic.
I’d drifted away from reading his blog (and he hasn’t been posting that much lately) but I remember how encouraging he was when I was starting out. He was such a generous netizen.
His was one of the first blogs I read (I was linked to by a friend), and my gateway into reading progressive blogs at all. This is truly sad news. He was also so smart and funny. May he rest in peace.
May his memory be a blessing. What a gutpunch for his family– to lose both father and son.
