xkcd on What Women Want when it comes to pornography. I can’t get the image to properly fit, but it’s pretty great, so click here. Thanks to Shiloh for the link.

YES!
Thank you, Jill. I really needed to laugh so hard I had Diet Pepsi go up my nose.
The alt text makes it even more awesome.
That was awesome.
lol, I loved the comic today. However, I then went to the XKCD forums and facepalmed hard at some of the comments. Immediatly I jumped on Feministe for some sense of sanity and saw this post :p
Yes. Very much yes.
Especially the alt tag!
Hi Jill. If you put the text style=”width:520px; height:149px;” inside the img image tag it should fit . It’ll be a little small that way but still readable, and anyway, people can follow your link to XKCD to see it full-size.
The whole “Porn for Women” series doesn’t just derive from gender stereotypes. From the notion that it’s unrealistic for men to be interested in “women’s activities” to the notion that for women there’s “nothing sexier than a man doing dishes” it promotes them.
It’s not that men shouldn’t pull weight or otherwise be part of the household when they’re part of the household. It’s that even if it’s tongue in cheek they’re eroticizing it. Which of course just promotes the idea that men should do housework in order to be worthy to the women who’s… domain housework really belongs to. There just aren’t enough words say how really, really, really bad an idea that is.

Would be so much better if we didn’t complicate the fact that basically, we all pretty much want the same things. Is that the truest form of subversion ever devised?
I laughed so hard when I first saw it. I agree wholeheartedly with that sentiment!
Hell, yes! :D
Although I’ll admit to liking costumed fantasies as well. For as much as it gets my historical costumer undies in a twist, there is a reason I love the local Renaissance Festival.
Yes, oh yes!
It’s nice when my husband helps around the house, but that’s not porn. That’s him sharing in the responsibilities of running a household.
Exactly! Porn is fantasy. It’s not some incredibly unlikely fantasy for a man to do a fair share of work around the house, it’s basic human decency. Comparing men doing housework to what’s in typical porn is just like saying “a man doing the laundry is just like a woman offering to have acrobatic sex for three hours, and should be met with the same amount of gratitude and awe.” Which is just bullshit. Also, it denies that women have sexual desires (apparently we prefer to have the amazing fantasy that one grand night our men will do the dishes rather than dream of anything sexual) which is also bullshit.
The book and concept is pretty stupid if not insulting. And the strip is just really precious.
I don’t know when but hopefully soon society (or at least book publishers) will realize that women have sexual, i.e. intercourse, desires too like men.
Btw, if chores are porn for women, what would or orgasm look like?
J. Clarence:
Dish soap EVERYWHERE.
Nentuaby – Thank you SO much. I haven’t laughed like that all day. The mental image was a real winner too!
I’ve been reading xkcd for a while, and this is definitely one of the better strips!
this comic: porn for feminists
the author is probably getting laid as we speak
