I’m getting to it late in the day, but it remains worthy of notice that today would have been Malcolm X’s 84th birthday. Renee has written a wonderful tribute to the great revolutionary, activist, and leader. Be sure to go check it out.

That’s a great article. Thank you for sharing.
Happy B-day, Malcolm!
I can tell from this post that you are a radical, evil, racist, 20-something, communist fascist
I love his speeches.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRSgUTWffMQ is probably my fav.
As this is a birthday post and not an RIP post, I’m not sure if it’s the appropriate time/place for this kind of comment, but I can’t help thinking of what we were talking about here when Mary Daly died:
I’ve read Malcolm X’s autobiography, and I found it brilliant and powerful. Without a doubt, he was an extremely important figure.
That said…there’s some really uncomfortable stuff about sex and sexuality in his work. Not Mary Daly-level hate, but (paraphrased) “she was a lesbian because she was abused” or “LOL kinky people they’re decadent and white.”
Yeah, I noticed that when I read it. But he managed to hold troublesome views without campaigning for them, so I’m mostly okay with it; as far as I know, anyway, he never advocated for gay cures or anything of the sort. So I’m still happy that his birthday was the day before mine.
Malcolm would have been 85; he was born in 1925.
