How dare you post a photo celebrating the monarchy-industrial complex which rules the US under the iron fist of our hereditary demi-god Obama??

Love love love Obama in the hat. Mike Mullen actually looks sort of cute in it–I feel like he could be one of my British aunts.

I <3 the two people poking their heads around in the back. It now looks like each of them is trying to see around the fabulous hats.

Wicked good. You made my day by posting this.
Now, I’m going to be imagining this on the heads of many different people.
I love hats. Especially ones that look like a uterus!

I would pay to use that picture as my Facebook profile. That’s beautiful. Also, how did we get 200+ posts on Beatrice’s hat? I mean, how is that anything but fun?

Hillary doesn’t look too happy about it. The President, OTOH, rocks the hat big-time.

Those hats reach almost as high as the Federal deficit.

Equal representation and fairness and social justice and anti-racism aside, as a person who haaates matchy-matchy clothes that blend in with the wearer’s skin color I think this is quite a good argument for having more POC in government! True, Biden’s looking pretty stylish, but you know someone with dark skin would look the most smashing in that hat. :D

That is an excellent photoshop! The different angles of the hat are matched perfectly to the people wearing it. Quality work.

Jill, I’m very offended by your frivolous posting of this picture without appropriate commentary on why almost all these people are men. Where is your outrage and analysis on this…? You are clearly not a *real* feminist.

    I shant be back.

I like to imagine Very Important People in the White House actually wearing those hats as a required ceremonial costume. Every day.

What the White House didn’t tell you is that this was snapped as they watched the live feed of the royal wedding — and the exact moment when aged Prince Philip nearly fell as he climbed into the carriage that would carry him and the Queen from the Abbey back to the palace. The concern and anxiety is written on all their faces, save for Adm. Mullen, who is on Facebook.

I have no idea what they were actually watching, but I guess it might have been a live feed from head cameras of some sort, which means they were watching the raid in progress. So she could be putting her hand over her mouth at someone getting his head blown off, but frankly that doesn’t sit with my read of her personally; she strikes me as not a bit squeamish – or more likely it was a particularly suspenseful part of the action.

Anxiety? Surprise? Deep concentration? Hiding a yawn? Covering a burp? Scratching an itch? Checking her breath? Realizing she had nachos for lunch and she forgot to check her teeth for cilantro and now there’s a photographer standing right there?

……helps to explain why the media flow seemed to fit so neatly and chronologically: the pictured elements of the news-orchestrating complex, mindful of the Royal Dress and Hat Extravaganza being senior to the Bad Guy-Rubout event, politely and efficiently sequenced the next-in-line story for maximum effect.
