My 4-month old baby has a ghost mommy. I’m not so much jealous of her, as I wish she was more corporeal so she could change poopy diapers.

Check out our month-long social media series—Men in the Movement—in celebration of the men whose support, guidance, and commitment to social justice is helping to build a better world.

We asked our colleagues, allies, and supporters to submit stories and partnered with Role/Reboot to share a few that have been published there. This series is an acknowledgement of the fathers, best friends, colleagues, and mentors whose passion and partnership has made a lasting impact on our lives and in our world.

It’s been an amazing two weeks at Wimbledon, and as usual the gender politics over women’s play and women’s appearance prompts me to make a couple of comments.

First, did you notice Serena Williams’ fantastically natural hair? I write briefly in celebration of her gorgeous hair and what it symbolizes in our crazy hair world.

And second, the Women’s Tennis Association is developing a plan to delimit women’s grunting on court — JUST women, mind you. I offer a satirical thank-you to the WTA and suggest other ways of tweaking the players’ behavior to make it more appealing to me personally.

I don’t know if yous remember, way back (about a month ago) I wrote the first of my trafficking posts, ‘what we talk about when we talk about trafficking; or, technically I’ve been trafficked you know‘. Anyway I finally got round to writing (most of) the follow-ups to that, thus: part two, part three.

In Back To Shouting, Then. I wrote about a big German public radio station’s decision to have a discussion about sexism in/and video games and yet, only invite white dudes to discuss it, about (surprise!) various sexism and racism fails during the program and when having to react to criticism, and my delightful experience with a self-declared feminist ally* who has now sworn off Feminism (TM) forever, because I was really mean to him…

Does it get easier? : A woman who works in the gaming industry asks whether caring about sexism will ever not just get her branded as a killjoy. My answer.

Ok so for once I won’t be plugging my own blog. Instead, these are “The Fictional Woods”, a literary board http://w11.zetaboards.com/thefictionalwoods/index/

It’s a forum mostly centered around modern/postmodern fiction, but we have extraordinary poets and a surfeit of post on poetry, philosophy and, for some reason, theology. It is easily the best place to discuss literature I ever found.

Registering can on occasion be a bit arduous, but here’s a short how-to http://w11.zetaboards.com/thefictionalwoods/topic/7420067/1/#new

This week on Kiss My Wonder Woman, we talked about…

The Women of Red Dawn Suck

How the 80s classic missed a golden opportunity for some kickass characters by obsessing over the story and not the characters.

Werewolves, the Us We Wish We Were
Why wolves? I mean, out of all the animals in the world, why are we so obsessed with wolves? And how did we take a species that is actually pretty egalitarian, and make it so patriarchal in fiction?

Guest Post: Supernatural, the Girliest Show on Earth
Supernatural is girly not because it’s a show for women, but because it’s got the most feminine interpretation of storytelling. Guest writer Kyla Gorman goes into what exactly that means.

    Spidey’s Girls

A quick review of Amazing Spiderman, and how the women in this one compare to the women of the previous films. Quick hint: pretty well.

A fun week on Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona’s blog:

Keeping Medications and Contraceptives Safe through the Summer: We’re in Arizona, where triple digit heat is taken for granted, but I hear tell there are major heatwaves taking place across the country. That makes this article especially timely. High temperature can alter the molecular structure of birth control pills or shorten the shelf life of a condom, so it’s good to know about any precautions you might want to take this time of year.

10 Sexually Transmitted Infections You Probably Don’t Know About: There are more than 30 sexually transmitted pathogens, and we compiled a list of some of the lesser-known STDs. Spoiler alert: No. 1 is donovanosis. Check this post to see what else made the list.

My novel, The Seven Perfumes of Sacrifice, about the search for the divine feminine and the ancient, lost origins of honor killing in the Arab world, got a spectacular review by Kirkus Reviews, the oldest book critic authority. I spent over a decade researching how honor killing got started and wove my original theory into a suspenseful novel. I am giving 10% of my book’s proceeds to The Global Fund for Women.

This wek I posted the 50th Edition of the Down Under Feminists’ Carnival, and shared my thoughts on that thing people call “dating”.

I wouldn’t usually do this, but I need to point out to people reading the post on “demisexuals” in comment #26 is basically a hate post that walks all over people’s identities, calling demisexual people repressed and sick and basically losers. Please don’t support this sort of bullshit on a feminist site like this, and if you must read, please be aware that delegitimising people’s sexual identity isn’t ok. But I’m sure everyone else here knows that.
