Last summer, then-DPS Officer Robb Gary Evans got drunk, drove to a bar, and sexually assaulted a woman there. July 2, he was convicted of felony sexual abuse. September 6, he was released with a slap on the wrist, and his victim was released with a good talking-to....read more

Because of the intense storm bearing down on the East Coast, I am stuck in San Francisco for an indefinite period of time — fingers crossed I’m back in NY on Wednesday, but unclear. Wah wah, stuck in an amazing city, I know. Very few complaints, but modding is going to be slow, since my internet access is not very consistent. Thanks for your patience! And stay safe, East Coasters....read more
My latest on Mourdock, Republicans and rape in the Guardian:
Some Republicans, like Mitt Romney, have tried to distance themselves from their party’s rhetorical obsession with sexual violation. What they’re hoping we won’t notice is the fact that their party is politically committed to sexual violation.
It’s October, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the U.S. is awash in a sea of bubblegum pink. The most recognizable, of course, is that of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and their ubiquitous pink ribbon, pink t-shirts, and potentially carcinogenic co-branded pink products. The wonderful Chloe Angyal has a piece at Jezebel about what a civilian can say to a wounded soldier (answer: not a lot). I would recommend avoiding the comments, unless you want to read a ridiculous parody of liberalism-gone-heartless....read more
He has certainly disappointed many of us on the left, but as the New Yorker points out, he’s also done a whole lot of good. And sorry lefties who think that there’s “no difference” between Obama and Romney, and that it’s just a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils — I am not quite sure you’re paying attention....read more
These days of course there are so many added venues for women to get together -– drinks after work, lunch, maybe a film, etc. My experience with such opportunities often, however, did not seem to me so different from my mother’s day. Often isolated, often individualized, often professionally segregated or age separated.
Considering this a few years ago, I decided a new, big gathering of women was just the ticket....read more
Thank God for Mitt Romney letting us know that the best, most qualified women come in binders. But he never answered the question that was really on everyone’s minds: Which binders? Well, it’s the immensely popular Avery Durable View Binder with 2 Inch EZ-Turn Ring (the white one). Customers are raving....read more
